If the standard target already seems boring to you, and the record of 180 points does not cause the same adrenaline – we have something that will bring the game to a new level. Imagine darts, where not three but four rings appreciate your marksmanship, where the maximum throw is 240 points, and the usual combinations suddenly lose their meaning.
This is not a fantasy. This is the Quadro 240, a target that once blew up the tournament scene and disappeared, leaving behind controversy, legends and fanatics. What was it – a revolution, a failure, or a forgotten masterpiece?
Let’s figure it out together – and maybe you’ll want to challenge the classic, too.
What is a Quadro target?
- The Quadro 240 is a target developed by Harrows around 1992. In addition to the usual sectors (single, double, triple), it contains a fourth ring between triple and bull, quadrupling the value of the sector
- The maximum score with three darts is 80×3 = 240 points, not the usual 180 points
- Tested professionally as part of the WDC UK Matchplay tournament (1993-1996).
History and popularity
Introduced on the professional scene in 1993-96, but was withdrawn from use: players found it difficult to memorize new combinations for finishing. After 2000, Harrows discontinued production of Quadro targets. Among collectors and retro-sports enthusiasts, it is a valuable rarity. It sometimes sells for hundreds of pounds on eBay
Why is it interesting?
- Higher highs. Risk is rewarded – more points for hitting it accurately.
- Unconventional strategy. Allows for variety of play, but requires new skills and memory (finishing combinations)
- Collector’s value. A rare and original target attracts the attention of fans; sports forums note its “novelty” and scarcity.
Is it worth a try?
If you’re interested in rare formats and aren’t afraid of complexity – Quadro can indeed be a cocktail of excitement and challenge. But if your priority is the classic 501, a tournament-level Blade/Dartboard will probably suffice.
For a collection or themed parties – undeniably an interesting choice. For regular workouts, it’s more of an experiment than the new normal.
